Overview
Acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese treatment for stimulating sensory nerves in the skin and muscles by inserting tiny thin needles into different body regions. What to expect during acupuncture session?
The acupuncture session usually lasts 20 minutes to 1 hour, during which you will be lying down on a padded table while the specialist inserts around 5 to 20 sterilized needles at varying depths at specific points, which may cause a stinging or tingling sensation during the insertion. After inserting the needles, the therapist may gently twist or spin them or provide heat or moderate electrical pulses to them, depending on the condition you are trying to improve and treatment requirement.
You may not experience all the benefits of acupuncture on the first or second appointment, which is why we recommend at least five sessions. Your therapist will determine the number of sessions you need based on the the condition you are trying to improve and how your body responds to treatment. Acute health problems should improve after six to eight treatments, but chronic disorders may require one or two sessions per week over several months.
