In addition, our doctors work in a multispecialty team to treat complex urological conditions, such as:

  • Bladder Exstrophy and Epispadias
  • Spina Bifida
  • Sexual Differentiation Disorders
  • Cloacal Malformations
  • Genitourinary Cancers
  • Chronic kidney disease (renal failure)
  • Neurogenic bladder / bowel
  • Posterior urethral valves (PUV)

Common pediatric urology conditions:

  • Vesicoureteral Reflux (VUR)

A condition where urine flows backward from the bladder into the ureter, the tube that ties the kidney to the bladder. Some children overcome subtle cases of VUR without treatment. VUR does not cause long-term issues for most children; however, surgery is sometimes required.

  • Hydronephrosis

Hydronephrosis occurs when a blockage or obstruction prevents urine from draining from the kidney to the bladder, causing either one or both kidneys to swell.

  • Kidney Stones

Kidney stones, also known as nephrolithiasis, are solid masses that develop in the kidneys. This condition can cause sudden and severe pain and blood in the urine and a long-term infection in the urinary tract. Kidney stone treatment depends on how big it is and whether or not it is blocking the urinary tract.

  • Urinary Tract Infections

UTIs are common infections that develop when bacteria enter the urethra from the skin or rectum and infect the urinary system. UTIs can affect either the kidney (pyelonephritis) or the bladder (cystitis), and treatment might range from behavioral adjustments to surgery, depending on the underlying cause.
